The thoughts, comments, and opinions held by Europeans about Americans are not only religiously hateful but are full of such unquestionable superiority that doubting them usually leads to an unmanageable emotional response. While some of these criticisms are quite fair, even ones I hold myself, the anger and smug prejudice leave you wondering if these words are wholly justified.
The fundamental idea behind these is that we as Americans are not only ignorant and inhumane, but that we enact our will despite these weaknesses. While I’d tend to agree, the idea has been taken and run with until it was infected with lies and misappropriations, all while being looked down upon by those who believe that they have found superior governance systems, and providing no substantial evidence that it is the case. Meanwhile, Europeans accuse Americans of being self-repressive and inhumane, defining humane behavior as maternity leave. Or they condemn us as being stupid, while they define knowledge as a recitation of geography.
And for all their claims of enlightenment in the face of American ignorance, they show an acute ignorance in their criticisms of American culture and thought. Doing so with such obsession and dogmatism that they appear rather pathetic. Interestingly enough, I have never seen a European with an actual understanding of Americans take such a livid stance opposing them.
One of the greatest books on American history was written by an Englishman, Paul Johnson’s A History of the American People. In this work he not only shows a knowledge of Americanisms, but he lays out what I believe is part of the source for this prejudice, the Europeans saw the Americans as barbaric. This idea is still applied, though it is no longer put explicitly into words, rather subliminally existing in the general populace. Americans were a collection of religious extremists, peasants, and outcasts, who, cast on a new shore, have not only thrived but have grown to become the leading power not only in the West but in the entire world, even surpassing Europe. We have done so with a pride, cockiness, and arrogance that lead us to be hated, especially when our decisions have been molded by such attitudes.
The United States now has:
- A larger GDP than all of Europe combined.
- A better birth rate.
- A stronger Christian faith.
- Immigrants that assimilate well.
- Most originality in Western culture. (Music, Architecture, Language, Clothing, etc.)
- A superior military.
- Independence from Europe.
Yet a European might argue in good faith that Europe is still superior due to things like better schools and workplace benefits. Part of this is due to American and European views slightly differing on the meaning of freedom. In general, America has cared more about individuality and less about fairness while Europeans have cared more for both security and fairness.
However, both still strongly believed in the core tenets of Western civilization, including Christianity, capitalism, self-responsibility, honor, pride, and relative liberty. Despite this, since the World Wars, the West, especially the European West, has thrown those tenets out the window. Christianity has been replaced with atheism or agnosticism, capitalism for social democracy, honor and pride for guilt and shame, and the gradual release of responsibility and liberty into the hands of the government.
While America is also guilty of these actions, we still are strongly entrenched in these tenets, while most Europeans have thrown them out of their society itself, trading it for ill-defined progress. Europeans have abandoned what made them great and now look back at the barbaric Americans, who are proud of their growth even if they are rather arrogant and shake their heads in disgust. Why do they not abandon their wicked past for progress? Now Europeans are widely living off the greatness of their fathers, allowing the great society they built to waste away slowly while pretending that they are progressing. With a shattered foundation, the house is starting to collapse, leaving this:
- Militaries that are reliant on America.
- A deteriorating birth rate.
- Millions of immigrants with no intentions of assimilation.
- Climate programs that are destroying their agriculture and industrial sectors.
- Mass inequality and stagnation.
In short, the irrational hate of Americans is mostly ad hominins, copes, half-truths, or blatant lies. While criticism is completely warranted, doing so while believing you are a superior people living in a superior society is not only a lie but a very dangerous one. If you believe in the traditional Western view of the world, know that America is not the source of all your problems. We are not responsible for the decline in Christianity or the creation of the Left, nor are we solely controlled by it. Those who care the most will rise and take command, and with the grace of God, we can steer Western Civilization back on course, allowing this people to continue.
